On Saturday December 22, the Right Reverend Mark A. Cooper, O.S.B., Abbot of Saint Anselm Abbey, instituted two members of the monastic community, Brothers Francis McCarty, O.S.B.’10 and Aloysius Sarasin, O.S.B. ’17, into the ministry of lector. The ministry of lector is formally conferred on those men who are preparing to be ordained to the priesthood.

“We are most pleased to have two of our brothers take this initial step toward ordination,” said Abbot Mark. “This event is a small representation of how our community continues to grow and flourish.”

Brother Francis is currently in his 2nd year of theological studies at Saint John’s Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts. He is a native of North Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Brother Aloysius is currently in his 1st year of theological studies at Saint Meinrad Seminary in Saint Meinrad, Indiana. He is a native of Leominster, Massachusetts.
